a message from unravel’s founder

April 8 marks ten years of Unravel.

When something reaches a milestone like this, it is easy to focus on the number. Ten years. Ten years of planning, serving, showing up, building, adapting, and hoping. But what I keep coming back to is not simply the passage of time. I keep coming back to the men who have participated in Unravel.

They are, and always have been, at the heart of it.

Unravel has never been about creating an event, a program, or a name. It has been about men who were willing to step in honestly, engage sincerely, and take meaningful steps forward. Over the last decade, so many of you have come with openness, faith, and courage. You listened. You shared your story. You trusted others. You wrestled with hard things. You allowed yourselves to be challenged, encouraged, and changed. In doing so, you shaped the spirit of Unravel more than you may realize.

Every person who has participated has mattered.

I still think about that very first Unravel gathering – seven guys in a room at 8pm on a Friday night. Each of us carried something into that room: a sense that things could be different, a half-formed vision of what our lives, our relationships, our faith might yet become. That vision felt meaningful but still unproven. At the time, none of us could have fully known what those early conversations would lead to or how many lives would be touched in the years ahead. But even then, what mattered most was already there: men willing to show up, be honest, do the work, and step into something real.

And of course, God showed up too.

Some of you were there near the beginning, when the vision was young and there were more questions than answers. Others joined later and brought new energy, perspective, and depth. Some participated in very visible ways, and others came quietly, without fanfare, leaving with greater clarity and purpose. Each man has helped make Unravel what it has become.

I am deeply grateful for you.

I am also grateful for the many people who have served Unravel along the way. So many volunteers, leaders, hosts, organizers, encouragers, and behind-the-scenes supporters have generously given their time, energy, wisdom, prayers, resources, and presence. Much of what God has done through Unravel over these ten years is because others were willing to serve faithfully, often without recognition.

And that, to me, is part of what makes Unravel so meaningful.

Meaningful change happens in the context of people who feel seen, valued, and invited into something greater. Not performance. Not image. Not information. But transformation that grows out of honesty, faith, humility, and a commitment to pursue progress, not perfection.

That is why this anniversary is not just a moment to look back. It is also a moment to look forward.

My hope for those who have not yet been involved with Unravel is simple: that you would consider this your invitation.

There is a place for you here.

Whether you are searching for clarity, wanting to grow, looking for deeper relationships, or simply curious as to what Unravel is about, I hope you will step in. You do not need to have everything figured out. You do not need to arrive polished or prepared. You only need a willingness to engage honestly and take the next step.

For everyone who has been part of Unravel in any way over these past ten years: thank you. Thank you for trusting the process, for showing courage, for helping shape something that continues to matter.

What Unravel has become over the last decade is, in many ways, a reflection of the men who have entered into it – and of a Creator who keeps showing up.

I could not be more thankful.

With gratitude and hope,

Mark
